Rust inhibitors are wonderful things.  I used POR15 on a few areas of the inner fenders on my '73 and coated the new pans (and near-perfect frame) with a wonderful paint called 'direct to metal'.  It's amazing what the proper treatments will do to prevent the car from rusting to the ground!

Tom, I'll have you know that I can and have changed my own oil!  I'm actually very good at it!  I just don't like doing so, so if I can get someone else to do it for me, all the better!  I am no good at anything having to do with wiring, however.  LOL. ;)  I've also added oatmeal raisin cookies to my list to bake tomorrow, so I'll definitely bring some cookies Sunday!

Trish ... glad they gave 'er the once over ... good news indeed. Ithink the patient will recover well. Fortunately all the stuff you will need is readily available for a '67 ... I see a full recovery in sight and your baby will be boppin down the road again soon.

One thing we weill need to do is pull the seats/interior panels/carpet and get everything dried out. I bought a '67 some years back that had rain inside for three years and the NEW pans rotted from the inside out! We don't need that ... a good drying, cleaning, and application of a rust inhibitor from the inside of the pans and body will take care of that.

Blessings can be found within tragedies .... this is a great opportunity for a club project and learning experience for all ... and a chance for fellowship. Hugs & cookies for all :).

I'm a Texas Girl, so snow was pretty rare down there but I have great

Looking forward to all that show up and I'll clear paths here and there
as everything is stacked to ceiling....where did I put the box with my

Had Poquoson Auto give bug a good WD40 soaking as a preventative
measure from underneath while on the rack to try and stop anty more
rust from doing it's thing. Dip stick didn't have foam but it was
higher by just a bit. and if I had my manual that the insurance guy
took off with, I'd try to drain but don't have a clue. That was the
whole purpose of gettin' the bug so Col. Daddy and I could work on it.

Hey Gang,

You have no idea how I appreciate your attention, help and concern!

This was my baby so I'm not giving up hope. Talked to Paul, the
owner
of Poquoson Auto who came to tow car and evaluate. He works on
vintage
US cars and he's a really good guy with a great staff.that have
worked
on my 95 lumina for over 10 years (and saved my a**) on extensive
repairs. He has been very helpful and encouraging. I appreciate his
honesty in saying he doesn't know much about bugs. He's impressed
that
the bug club is coming to the rescue! Said the best thing is that
car
was not started but will need a wiring harness, brakes, and other
electrical items. He said it is a very desirable car so not to give
up.

Anytime is good this weekend...I'll be in the garage, cleaning,
moving
and sanitizing...getting ready to take down sheetrock 24 inches
down to
floor to get out insulation for repair work from the flooding. In
Poquoson, we have a phrase, "I'm not complaining - I'm just
explaining"
'cause everyone knows someone who got it worse.

My phone number is 868-5121 and parent's next door is 868-8902.

Thanks again, I look forward to your advice...and I'll buy lunch!

You are all the best!

Looking forward to your visit and evaluations!

To: "Warren C. Jones" <blockedmailto:warren.jones1@gmail.com>

Dear Warren:

I'm a member of the PVWC but haven't been to a meeting since
the
time before
the BugOut. I had the 67 red bug that I just bought in April
and
was
thrilled to join a club of true VW enthusiasts!

During the nor'easter, my pride 'n joy got flooded. Needless to
say, I'm
crushed by the loss. This was my 4th VW; my first was a 57, 2nd
was a 67,
3rd was a 66 and I waited 10 years to buy this one. She is a
California car,
an award-winner and was in great shape w/ a rebuilt 72 engine,
Fat Boy
exhaust system, she was a beauty.

I got an insurance check but the one group I towed her to here
in
town said
to just take the money. They do not work on VWs so I'd like to
still see if
I can get her operating and work with a group that understands
the magic of
VWs like our club does.

It's hard to say how bad it is, I know the wiring is trashed,
probably the
engine, starter, brakes, etc. Just had put on a brand new
generator on and
water didn't get that high. I just don't have the knowledge to
know if it is
a total loss and the insurane check would cover repairs.

I'm 58 years old, a caregiver for two parents in their late 80s
and that's
one of the reasons I couldn't save her...no one was here to
help
me get her
to safety as we live right on the water and we were not
expecting
the high
water - we've lived here since 67 and it's never been that bad.

I hate to just give up and throw in the towel and would like
someone to at
least look at it to see if I should, so your advice on what to
do
next would
be greatly appreciated. With your advice, I'd like the club to
put their
heads together and tell me what to do. I remember my 57 came to
me with
plants growing in the floorboards in the back seat. My 67, I
literally
"rolled out to pasture" at our farm in Quitman (east Texas)
while
I moved to
NYC. Came back two years later, put a charger on her and told
my
dad, "you
watch...she'll crank on the third try." And she did...the only
thing blowin'
out the exhaust were dirtdaubber nests! Took her in to Mineola,
Texas and
just had to get her inspected and the brake lights
fixed...other
than that,
she was ready to go. VWs have their own spirit and I don't want
to let his
one die. Please help!

Sincerely,
Trish Turner
